Why Saudi manufacturers are looking at banding
Saudi industry is growing fast. By the end of 2025 the Kingdom had 12,946 licensed factories, up from 7,206 in 2016, according to the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program. The food sector alone counts around 1,900 factories, and Saudi food exports reached SAR 15 billion in 2025. More lines, more SKUs and more export markets put pressure on packaging: it has to be faster, use less material and still carry the right information for each market.
Banding answers that pressure in a simple way. A band of paper or film is wrapped around the product, tensioned precisely, sealed and cut in one movement. There is no heat tunnel, no glue and no full plastic wrap, so you save material, energy and floor space, and the product stays fully visible on the shelf.
Dates and batch codes printed on the band, in one step
Food sold in Saudi Arabia must carry Arabic labelling and clear production and expiry dates under the SFDA/GSO labelling standards. The Gulf labelling standard requires these dates to be printed, embossed or stamped permanently on the pack, rather than added as a separate date sticker.
Bandall machines can print variable data directly onto the band while banding: production date, expiry date, batch number and barcodes. The band itself can be pre-printed with your Arabic and English artwork. One band can therefore replace the extra label, the date sticker and the multipack wrap. Always confirm the exact requirements for your product category with SFDA or your regulatory advisor.
Saudi industries that benefit from banding
- Dairy and bakery: Saudi Arabia is more than self-sufficient in dairy products (131% in 2024, GASTAT). Multipacks of yoghurt, cheese, butter and bakery trays can be grouped and branded with a band instead of shrink film.
- Dates and confectionery: Saudi Arabia was the world’s largest date exporter by value in 2025, with exports of SAR 1.938 billion to more than 125 countries. Date boxes, gift packs and Ramadan or Eid promotions can be banded with a printed paper band that carries the brand, the dates and the barcode.
- Meat and poultry: trays, vacuum packs and skin packs can be bundled and labelled without heat, so the cold chain is not interrupted.
- Pharmaceuticals and personal care: Saudi Arabia has more than 200 pharmaceutical and medical-device factories. Banding bundles cartons into shelf-ready units and prints the batch and expiry data on the band.
- Hospitality and laundry: hotels and industrial laundries use banding to bundle towels and linen neatly and hygienically.
- Printing, cartons and logistics: stacks of printed matter, flat cartons, e-commerce bundles and industrial parts.

Paper or film bands
Bands are available in widths from 28 to 125 mm. Choose recyclable paper, white or kraft, or clear and printed film that resists moisture, chilling and freezing. Every roll can be printed with your own artwork, and variable data can be added on the machine. See our banding material page for details.
How we work with customers in Saudi Arabia
- Free sample test: send us samples of your product. Within two working days of receiving them we send you photos and video of the banded result, and we can return the banded samples.
- Showroom demo: visit our showroom in Dubai Investments Park and see your product banded live, or join a live video demonstration.
- Proposal: tell us the product, pack size, required speed and whether you need printing on the band, and we send a specification and quotation.
- Import and delivery: since 1 October 2025 every shipment into Saudi Arabia needs a SABER shipment certificate before customs clearance. We prepare the machine documentation with you so the import goes smoothly.
- Installation, training and support: installation, operator training, spare parts and band supply for the life of the machine.
Tip: factories with an industrial licence can apply to the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources for customs-duty exemption on production machinery and spare parts. Ask your customs broker whether your project qualifies.

Frequently asked questions
Can a banding machine replace shrink wrapping?
For multipacks, bundles and shelf-ready groups, yes in most cases. Banding holds the products together without a heat tunnel and uses far less material. Shrink film is still the better choice when the product needs a full moisture barrier or full tamper evidence. Read our shrink wrapping vs banding comparison.
Can the band carry Arabic text, dates and barcodes?
Yes. The band can be pre-printed with Arabic and English artwork, and the machine can print production and expiry dates, batch numbers and barcodes on the band during banding.
What products are not suitable for banding?
Single round bottles and soft flexible pouches are not a good fit, because the band needs a stable surface to hold on. Cartons, trays, boxed groups, stacks and bundles are ideal.
