What pharmacy packaging banding has to prove
Pharmacy packaging banding does two things a plain bundle does not. It shows whether a pack has been opened, and it carries the data that has to travel with the medicine. A sealed paper band cannot be slipped off and put back without breaking, so the tamper evidence is in the band itself, not in a separate seal.
Batch number, expiry date, GTIN and the barcode print onto the band as it is applied. That means the information is generated at the moment of packing rather than pulled from a pre-printed label stock that has to be reordered every time a detail changes.
For multipacks and dispensing packs, the band also replaces the outer carton. Two or three boxes leave the line held together, visible, and marked, without a secondary carton being bought, stored and disposed of.
Cosmetics and toiletries use the same tamper-evident band, and promotional multipacks print the same way.
